1. What is a tab?

'Tab' is an abbreviation for the word 'tablature', which is a type of instrumental notation that indicates the string, fret, key, or finger to be used instead of the tone to be sounded. Instead of telling us what notes should be played, as standard sheet music does, tabs tell us what to do to the instrument to play a song. For this reason they are great for practice and learning new techniques.

2. Where do you get your tabs?

All of our tabs are ear-transcribed at home by musicians like yourself. You simply find a song you like, listen to it and play along until you have figured it out, and then tab it out and submit it.
You do need to register or log in first.

3. What are Pending Tabs?

FindTabs uses a system of Pending Tabs to give members the power to decide which tabs are added and deleted from the database.

Before taking a permanent spot in the database all submitted tabs have to pass through the Pending Addition phase. Members check them for quality, usability, and value, and vote either to Accept or Reject the tab. It takes five votes for or against to decide a tab.

When members feel that a tab does not belong in the database, whether because it is not very useful, there is a better tab present, or they just don't like it, they can vote to delete the tab. When it receives three votes for deletion it moves to the Pending Deletion phase, where its fate is voted upon in the same way as new tabs that are pending addition.

4. What are the different classifications of members ?

These are our levels of classification for members, designed to give greater and greater power to members that make positive contributions to the site.
  • Unverified Members are those who have registered an account, but have not yet followed the verification link in their email. They do not yet have any abilities on the site.

  • Members have registered an account and verified their email address. They have the full range of membership powers, and their votes always count as one vote.

  • Contributing Members have been members for at least three months and have submitted three or more tabs successfully to the database. When a Contributing Member rates a tab or votes on a Pending Tab, his vote counts two times, as if two separate Members had made the vote. Contributing Members can also adopt unregistered tabs. This effectively makes them the submitter of the tab, and gives them the power to edit the tab.

  • Senior Members have been members for at least one year and have successfully submitted and added at least 12 tabs. They have all the powers of Contributing Members, and their rates and votes count three times.

  • Moderators are specially appointed by FindTabs administration for their outstanding contributions and integrity. Moderators can edit and delete any tab and can also ban and block violating members.
